This house at Jalan Tani is a playful collage of positive and negatives on its facades. The front has a north-eastern orientation which invites daylight, thus a series of opaque and transparent surfaces creates a visual experience in its interior and exterior. The combined horizontal white strips and unfinished concrete to create a composite cuboid form. Crisp edges coupled with a neutral palette lends the structure an understated elegance. The exterior also incorporates béton brut, intentionally exposing the raw concrete in an industrial minimalist style. The consistent black and wooden aesthetic connects the interior and exterior, and maintains a studio-like decor. The porosity of space within is maintained – columns as the main structural support and clear glass sliding doors as spatial markers. Hence, the spacious interior offers opportunities to host guests and incite social activity.
