ASIAN CIVILISATION MUSEUM
Edmund Ng Architects was given the opportunity to design the exhibition space for Ghost Nets of the Ocean: Au Karem ira Lamar Lu at the Asian Civilisations Museum. The marine-themed exhibition features works by indigenous and non-indigenous artists from Erub Arts on Darnley Island, Torres Strait, Australia, and aims to raise awareness about pollution and marine conservation.
By deliberately positioning the net-trapped marine life to float and physically encapsulate the space around the gallery, one is immediately entrapped in the aquatic world, leaving them with little to no choice but to place their shoes in those who reign the sea. The works are also suspended at various heights, resembling how sea creatures navigate ocean currents. This immersive design, practical and aesthetic, aligns with the museum’s intentions to bring greater awareness to their visitors.
